Hi everyone & welcome back to the blog. Today I will be showing you my latest DIY project and how I turned a small corner of my house into a cute window bench for cozying up with some coffee and a good book.

Let’s get started.

Here is the Before:

The first lovely piece of furniture I added was this vintage rustic style room divider I bought online, you can buy it on overstock now here.

Next, I took this shelf that I bought at Ikea years ago and sanded it down. The shelf was originally brown so I gave it a fresh new coat of paint using Annie Sloan’s off white. After the paint had dried I sanded parts down to give it a nice rustic worn look and then finally topped it off with some Annie Sloan’s clear wax.

I then sewed a cover for a cushion using linen fabric and placed it on top of the bench.

I also included cute wooden buttons to help make the cover super flexible and easy to take off for cleaning.

Next, I sewed some pillows together.

To make these super cute and simple pillows I first sewed the covers using various fabrics of neutral colors. I, then, used different lace and burlap ribbons to add a more handmade rustic look.

The two smaller pillows have a crochet cover that I found at a vintage/flea market.

Adding handmade and personal touches to my home are very special to me. I love being able to look around my home and be surrounded by the many things I made and enjoyed putting my love into. So I cross stitched an Antique Sampler using Country Cottage Needleworks pattern and hung it over the bench.

Finally, I finished off the bench by styling the shelves below with some books, candles, and accessories from Hobby Lobby.

After the shelves are decorated, the window bench is complete.
