The best gift you can give is a handmade one.

If you ever have a choice, choose handmade.

Handmade is one of kind and very thoughtful, yes, but why is it so different than a thoughtfully chosen gift? What does a handmade gift really say to another person?

When you take the time, the extra thought, extra mile to create a gift, often you are pouring your love and heart into what you are making.

The best way for us to describe why a handmade gift is truly special is for us to ask you one simple question. Have you ever been given a thoughtful gift that someone made special for you?  Were you surprised beyond belief? Did you feel surrounded by love through their gift?

Sometimes the best way to let another person know they are loved is to show that you are thinking about them. When you create with love and make something with your own hands, your loved ones will be able to see that in your gift. Most importantly, though, not only will they be able to tell how much you love them from the time and selfless thoughts you put into it, but they will be able to FEEL that love and thoughtfulness pouring into THEM.

We truly believe that handmade gifts are representations of people’s love into physical objects, at least the closest thing to it anyway. A handmade gift is literally the passing of love from one person to another.

Now, not being crafty or good at making things or claiming to not have time to make something is NOT AN EXCUSE. If anything these “reasons” are why your gift will be that much more special to the recipient.

Don’t worry we know you; we know your thinking exactly that. “I AM NOT CRAFTY and I have so much on my plate already! How am I supposed to find the time to make anything?!”

The answer is simple: Do it anyway.

Even if you are awful at “making things” or don’t have any time or money, do it anyway. We both know that when you really love someone, whoever you are creating for, no excuse in the world would stop you from a chance to make them feel loved and appreciated. You wouldn’t miss making them happy for the world. So let’s stop right there and start brainstorming some ideas of what you can start creating, shall we?

Here are 7 different handmade ideas you can hand make to leave your loved ones with an everlasting impression:

  1. Quilt:

Consider their interests. Make it a theme using their favorite movie or TV show or favorite Sports Team. Or their hobbies, for instance, fishing, music, travel (if they travel a lot a small blanket they can take with them), gardening, etc. Use their favorite colors. Consider the style of their home. Make it a picnic blanket if they like spending time with others, love to entertain, or like being outdoors. Also, it doesn’t have to be a big or complicated quilt, look up a small lap quilt pattern and just use simple patchwork.

  1. Mug Rug:

A mug rug is a small quilted placemat that can fit a coffee or tea cup on one end and a small treat on the other end. You can look up patterns on Pinterest. For this we would recommend putting together a basket to pair the mug rug with a cute coffee mug they would enjoy and a coffee spoon (make it extra special by getting it engraved with a message) and some coffee beans (try and choose local or really nice quality coffee).

  1. Embroidery:

We love embroidery as a gift because of the freedom it provides. You can literally make ANYTHING into an embroidery. Just frame it or keep as hoop art and they can hang it anywhere in their home. An example of an embroidery we created was of an image along with an inside quote that would only be special and understood by the person we made it for. It is an inside joke and a memory we all cherish. Now, these words are put into an embroidery that can be seen hanging in their home and every time we look at it, we can smile and laugh and remember the story behind our gift.

  1. Cross stitch:

Cross Stitch is quite similar to embroidery as it is needlework, however; it is a little easier to do. A small cross stitch can be turned into a wall hanging, an ornament, kitchen towel, pillowcase, and even kitchen pot holders. The flexibility here is great and can turn any ordinary objects into a cute personal touch.

  1. Wall weaving:

Looms and weaving seem to be a huge trend right now. They are so much fun and they can really liven up a space. Again using a theme of colors and adding little ornaments to hang on it can really add that personal touch. Some of my favorite themes I have seen are: mermaid, seasonal, harry potter (any movie or TV show again would work), pink for girl bosses or pretty in pink, red white and blue for patriots and soldiers/veterans, tropical for those who love the beach vibes, etc.

  1. Pillow:

Pillows can be super simple to make. You can quilt them, embroider on them, hand letter them. You can decorate them however you want. Put an inspirational quote, their word of the year or a word that means a lot to them, a monogram, or a letter from you to them. What we love most about pillows is that it can be placed in their home on the couch where they will see it most often. They will think of you and your kindness every time they sit down. A pillow can make their home feel more like home, a home filled with a gift that shows them how loved they are.

  1. Scrapbook:

The best gift we have ever been given by a friend was a scrapbook. You could tell it took her hours to just sit there and put it together and it meant the world to us. Now we have something that we can pull off the shelf and open up and be reminded of our friendship and all the crazy fun things we got to do together. It contains memories, but most importantly it showed us just how special our friendship was that she went out of her way to create something so important for us. It has been many years since she gave us that scrapbook and it still brings a smile every time we see it on our shelf. It doesn’t have to be 1,000 pages long or filled with fancily decorated pages. As long as you put your heart and best memories into it with handwritten notes beside the pictures, let’s just say if it means a lot to you when you look it…it will mean even more to them.

These are just some of the many different ways you can hand make a gift. We will admit the perfect gift does require you to know them well and to be able to pick their brains for them to know what they will enjoy most. You will have to be the best judge for them, but this is where thoughtfulness comes in to play. With thoughtfulness comes love and with those two you can create the most warm-hearted, caring gift.

We love handmade gifts because of how much connection, love, and unforgettable memories they create. Handmade gifts make people more empathetic and they create happiness and joy. They add wonderful beauty into the world.

So we ask you again, to choose handmade.
